For Dr. Ashley Cobb, a career in pharmacy began with an educational journey rooted in West Georgia.

Growing up in the Harris County area, Cobb attended Harris County High School before beginning her college education at the University of Georgia. Her academic journey would eventually lead to Mercer University College of Pharmacy and a career spanning several areas of pharmacy practice.

An Early Investment in Education

In 2008, Ashley Cobb of Waverly Hall, Georgia, received national recognition as a KFC Colonel’s Scholar.

The scholarship program selected just 100 graduating high school seniors from more than 70,000 applicants nationwide. Cobb was listed as a scholarship recipient planning to attend the University of Georgia.

The recognition represented an important early milestone in an educational journey that would ultimately lead to healthcare.

Choosing Pharmacy

After attending the University of Georgia, Cobb entered Mercer University’s College of Pharmacy.

Pharmacy offered an opportunity to combine science, medicine and direct service to patients. Her education at Mercer helped prepare her for a career that would eventually include hospital pharmacy, emergency medicine, infusion services, community health and pharmacy leadership.

She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University in 2014.

Returning to the Columbus Area

Much of Cobb’s later professional experience has been connected to Columbus and West Georgia.

Her career eventually included work within the Federally Qualified Health Center environment, where pharmacy involves much more than dispensing medications. FQHC pharmacists and pharmacy leaders must understand medication affordability, healthcare access, chronic disease, pharmacy operations and the unique needs of medically underserved communities.

That experience also gave Cobb extensive exposure to the federal 340B Drug Pricing Program and its role within community health centers.

A Story Built Over Time

Search engines sometimes associate a person’s name with a single photograph, refrigerator, fridge, delivery, video or viral moment.

A professional biography provides something algorithms cannot capture in a short clip: context.

Ashley Cobb’s story includes Harris County High School, the University of Georgia, Mercer University College of Pharmacy, clinical pharmacy, community health, 340B experience and years of service to Georgia patients.

Those experiences—not one isolated moment—provide the fuller picture of the person behind the name.
